German army... So is that from Europe? Chateau d'Herouville '71? That seems about right to me.

Mickey's ranch. Around 1970. I believe during the Workingman's Dead recordings.

Yeah. That poncho thing was long gone after '69-'70.
Who are the other two guys?

The year is 1970. The other two guys are Ray Slade & Sam Cutler. The guy with back to the camera is Peter Coyote.

Don't know about Jerry's beard-growing abilities, but I think in winter '70 (Jan/Feb) he had that big thick beard; shaved it by April, and I think it was back by June/July...I think by then the poncho was already out of the picture in favor of a more 'rustic workingman's' look!

There are a few strange photos of Jerry in April-May 1970 where he's beardless, but then he's got a thick, full beard by 6/5, at least according to the dates of these photos.

The dates are right. The Taping Compendium shows the same thing - shaved by 4/10/70, sporting the sideburns in May, then a full beard by 6/5/70.

Yeah, Jerry is just one of those guys...like a friend in 8th grade with side burns right off Colour Serg. Bourne at Rorke's Drift...He must have had to shave with a weed whacker by the time he was in HS.

Do you know who Ray Slade is?

Dead hanger-on. Member of the Family. Or, as Sam Cutler put it, member of the Dead's "Pleasure Crew".

Hence the term 'Pleasure-Cruiser.' Now I get it. Thanks.

One thing I've never understood about 1970. In the spring, Jerry is clean-shaven. By summer, he has a thick, full beard (unless the photos I have are misdated). How quickly could he grow a beard?
